Topic: Design of 2D hybrid materials with plasmonic and electrocatalytic activity.
Results on the design, synthesis, characterization and applications of different hybrid materials will be presented. Combination of graphene oxide (GO) and MoS2 flakes with metal nanoparticles conforms a platform with particular characteristics, highlighted by the synergy of the properties from individual components. The assembly of the components in a single integrated and stable hybrid nanomaterial either in aqueous dispersion or deposited on a substrate, is achieved using chemical and electrochemical methods, for subsequent physicochemical characterization. Incorporation of nanoparticles in two-dimensional networks directly or through functionalization of 2D flakes, enables new capabilities for use in ultrasensitive detection of analytes by SERS spectroscopy or in electrochemical hydrogen production. Examples of systems under development include assemblies of rGO-AuPdNps, rGO-PdNps, rGO-GO and MoS2-AuNps. Moreover, these nanomaterials have been used as additives in the nickel electrodeposition Watts baths on steel. In these cases, the 2D flakes are included in the crystalline structure of nickel and as a consequence, there is a remarkable increase in electrocatalytic activity with respect to the hydrogen evolution reaction of the electrodes

Research experience
-Electrodeposition of metallic nanoparticles on few layers graphene, graphene oxide and HOPG.
Electrochemical characterization by Raman in-situ spectroscopy.
– Functionalization of atomically smooth surfaces of silicon for the electrochemical generation of metallic nanostructures.
– Control and characterization of hybrids platforms with high sensitivity for detection of adsorbates, designed with graphene, MoS2 or WS2 and electrodeposited plasmonic nanoparticles, by SERS, TERS and electrochemical methods.
– Development of new hybrid materials for the production of hydrogen in alkaline electrolyzers.
Teaching experience
– Professor position since 1993-present. Lessons in Graduate Courses (Basic cicle and Bachelor in Chemistry) in the Faculty of Chemistry at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina).
